What Types of Assets Can I add to a product?
The PIM can support the following asset file extension types:
- Images
- .jpg
- .jpeg
- .eps
- .gif
- .png
- Documents/Files
- .ai
- .cdr
- .doc
- .docx
- .dwg
- .ISO
- .xls
- .xlsx
*PIM assets can be uploaded as public or private.
- Public - This is the default method for asset upload. Public assets will publish to marketplaces/channels and are able to be referenced via URL using attributes. Most assets will be public.
- Private - By selecting private when uploading an asset, you restrict access to that file to logged in users of the PIM only. The file cannot be referenced via URL and will not publish to marketplaces or channels. This is intended for internal or sensitive information that needs to be associated with products.
How Do I Add Assets To Products In The PIM?
There are two supported methods for adding assets to products in the PIM: direct upload and upload from URL.
Direct Upload
To upload images to products direct from your computer follow these steps:
- From the assets tab, click “Upload Asset”
- Drag files into the window or click to select files from your computer. You can upload multiple files at the same time using either method
- By default, assets will upload a public (accessible)
- If the file is intended to be used only internally by logged in PIM users, select “Add it as private”
- Wait for check marks to appear over all of the images, indicating they are ready for processing
- Click Upload
Via URL
To upload assets from a publicly accessible URL, follow these directions. NOTE: only individual image uploads are supported via URL.
- From the assets tab, click “Add Asset by URL”
- Paste the URL into the field
- By default, assets will be added as Public (accessible)
- If the file is intended to be used only internally by logged in PIM users, select “Add it as private”
- Click “Save”
Occasionally images will not import correctly via URL due to the nature in which they are published to the web. In these cases, save the file to your computer and upload it directly.
What Can I Do With Assets I’ve Uploaded?
As a Mini DAM, you can perform a variety of actions on assets that you’ve uploaded in the PIM.
Set A Thumbnail
The PIM allows you to designate an image as the thumbnail and primary hero image when publishing.
- From the assets tab, click the gear icon next to any uploaded image
- Select set as thumbnail
To select a different image as the thumbnail repeat the steps on a different image
Remove A Thumbnail
- From the assets tab, click on the gear icon of the image labeled a thumbnail
- Select remove as thumbnail
NOTE: depending on your channel requirements this may cause the product to become invisible or be removed from the channel
Reorder Assets
To change the order in which product assets are displayed on the product pages you can reorder them in the PIM.
- From the assets tab, click and drag any image up or down to designate a new image order.
- Repeat this until you are satisfied with the changes
- Click Save Asset Order to save and trigger a sync of the new image order
Edit an Asset Name and Description
The PIM allows for custom image titles and alt text (called Name and Description).
- From the assets tab, click the gear icon of the image you wish to edit
- Select Edit
- Make edits to Name and/or Description
- Select Close to leave the page without making any changes
- Select Save to save your edits and trigger a sync
Remove an Asset
- From the Assets Tab, click the gear icon next to the asset you wish to remove
- Select delete
- NOTE: there is no confirmation for deleting an asset. Proceed with caution.
Working With Other Asset Types
Jasper PIM can support non-image assets, these will not publish to ecommerce platforms as they are largely unsupported.
Referencing a non-image asset
If you would like to reference a non-image asset when publishing to an ecommerce platform such as BigCommerce or Shopify, please follow these directions:
BigCommerce
Upload the file through the BC WebDAV using this article. To reference the file on a product grab the public URL of the file and proceed to the PIM portion.
Shopify
Upload the file directly to the Shopify CDN by following the directions in this article. Once uploaded, the URL will be visible next to the file. Copy the URL and proceed to the PIM section.
PIM
After uploading the file to the correct location and copying the file URL, create a simple text attribute in the PIM. Assign the attribute to your product, either manually or as part of an attribute set and then paste the URL of the file into the attribute value field.
On your platform’s theme, you will need to customize the product page template to display the attribute as a link to allow customers to access it.
